Efficiency Smart Celebrates 10 Years of Serving Brewster Electric Customers

Efficiency Smart, the Village of Brewster's energy efficiency partner, is celebrating its ten-year anniversary of serving Brewster electric customers. Since 2011, Efficiency Smart has worked with the village to help Brewster Municipal Electric customers reduce energy use and save money through energy efficiency services.

“Efficiency Smart’s technical services are invaluable,” said Charles Hawk, Brewster Mayor. “Their guidance gives residents and business confidence that their energy efficiency investments are cost-effective and will pay off in the long run. They have also helped the village complete energy efficiency improvements that will save the entire community money.”

Efficiency Smart has provided the technical resources and financial incentives to help 10 businesses and organizations complete projects since 2011. In addition, residents have completed nearly 3,000 energy-saving improvements. These projects have resulted in nearly $280,000 in annual electric cost savings for customers, which is equivalent to the annual electricity needed to power nearly 400 homes for a year.

Efficiency Smart has also built relationships with contractors, retailers, and community agencies to reach a larger share of customers in Brewster. One example has been partnering with Belloni Foods to provide discounts on efficient lightbulbs. This partnership has helped drive traffic to the store and resulted in nearly 5,000 lightbulbs sold at an affordable price.

“At the end of the day, our job is about helping people,” said Sean Clement, Director of Efficiency Smart. “It’s about making homeowner’s bills lower and their homes more comfortable, helping businesses increase profits, and helping utilities provide power more affordably.
